Getting started with Rize
How do I make a Rize account?
Once you are officially enrolled in a Rize-powered course by your registrar, you should receive an email to your campus email address with a link to create an account. If you haven't received an enrollment email, you can create an account by navigating to https://app.rize.education and clicking on the "Need to Register?" link. You will then be asked to enter your campus email address on the following page. If you are still experiencing issues, please reach out to your registrar.
How do I navigate the Rize platform?
You can navigate the Rize platform via the left sidebar. There are two main sections: "My Courses" (listing your enrolled courses) and "My Career" (with Career Plan, Milestones, Skills, Explore Careers, Plan Courses, and Toolkit). You can also access Home, Messages, and Support from the sidebar.
How do I contact support if I need help?
If you need help, click the "Support" button at the bottom of the left sidebar. This opens a live chat window where you can receive assistance from the Rize support team. You can also email support@rize.education any time. Someone from our team will usually get back to you within 24 hours.
How do I request academic accommodations?
Rize is happy to provide necessary accommodations, such as extended time or support personnel. Fill out our Accommodations Request Form, which you can find here. If you're unable to complete the form or your accommodations haven't been implemented yet, please reach out to support@rize.education, and a member of our team will assist you.
Understanding your Courses
How do I find my assignments for the week?
There are two ways to find assignments for the week. First, you can click the "Show Assignments" toggle on the homepage right above your course cards. Once toggled on, each course card will preview the assignments for the week. Additionally, if you click on any course card, you will land on the "Current Week" tab, where you can review the resources (e.g., readings, videos), assignments, and due dates for the week.
How do I submit an assignment?
First, navigate to the assignment for a given week via Current Week or Course Schedule on the course homepage. Click "Get Started." You’ll be directed to the assignment page, where you'll see the submission area on the right side. You can upload a file (drag and drop or browse to upload) or submit a link. Make sure to click "Upload File" to save your submission.
How do I use the weekly resources for my course?
In the Current Week view of your course, click "Watch Video" or “View Resource” next to any Weekly Resource item. Weekly Resources can be videos or readings. Assignment pages may also include walkthrough videos in the "Assignment Walkthrough" section.
What is a "Rize Powered Course"?
Rize-powered Courses are courses created and hosted directly on the Rize platform. They include integrated content, assignments, video resources, and skill-tracking to help you prepare for your target career.
Absences and Attendance
How does attendance work?
Courses require participation each week for attendance. If you see "PARTICIPATION NEEDED," you need to complete a meaningful activity in the course that week. Meaningful activities include...
- Submitting an assignment
- Posting to a forum
- Submitting answers to a quiz
If you miss participation, you'll be marked absent. Knowingly submitting false statements in an attendance confirmation will be treated as academic dishonesty. Check the Academic Policy link for full details.
I was marked absent for a week. What should I do?
Review the Academic Policy for your course to understand participation requirements.
- To be marked as present, you need to have meaningfully engaged in your course work (e.g., submitting an assignment, posting to the Q&A channel, answering questions in a quiz) or received an extension from your instructor for work due that week.
You can contact your instructor via the Messages feature or the support chat, or attend Office Hours to discuss your situation.
Note: your submission is not saved until you upload a file or link and click Submit. If you navigate away from the assignment page without clicking submit, your submission will not count.
Grades
Where can I find the grading rubric for an assignment?
On any assignment page, click the "Grading" sub-tab right below the Assignment name. This shows the detailed rubric with point breakdowns for each performance level.
How do I check my grades?
On any course page, click the "Grades" tab beneath the course name. You'll see a summary at the top showing your current score broken down by assignments, discussions, and quizzes, plus your overall grade.
- Below that is a list of every graded item with its type, due date, status, and score.
- You can also toggle between Points and Percent views using the switch at the top of the page next to the “Current Score” title.
Why does my grade seem so low?
If you’re concerned about your grade, especially early in the semester, it may be worth reviewing your completed assignments. If you have incomplete assignments, especially in the first few weeks of a course, your top-level grade may be impacted.
What does my current grade of "—" mean?
A dash (—) for your grade means either an assignment has not been graded yet or you haven't submitted any work. Once you begin submitting assignments and they are graded, your grade will appear.
How do I see the full grading scale for my course?
Go to the "Syllabus" tab in your course and scroll to the "Grading And Assessments" section. There you'll find the full letter grade scale with corresponding point ranges and percentages.
Instructor information
How do I contact my instructor?
You have two options. You can...
- Click the "Message" button on the Instructor tab to send a direct message
- Attend Office Hours via the Live Sessions tab (click "Join" at the scheduled time)
Do Rize-powered courses have office hours?
Yes! Go to the "Live Sessions" tab in your course. You'll see upcoming drop-in office hour sessions with dates and times. Click "Join" when the session is live.
- You can also click "Copy Link" to share the meeting link or "Add to Cal" to add it to your calendar.
How do I use the Q&A Forum?
Click the Q&A Forum tab (scroll right in the course tabs if you don't see it). You can search existing questions, read answers, ask new questions using the "Ask a Question" button, and upvote helpful questions with the fire icon.
Skills
What are these skills I see?
Every Rize-powered course has been designed with academic and subject matter experts to prepare students for getting a career after graduation. Many assignments will have skills mapped to them. These are the skills you should expect to develop by completing the assignment.
What is Skill XP?
Each skill you see in your assignment will have a potential Skill XP (or skill experience point) total you can earn. The amount you earn is based on your performance against the skill relevant portions of the rubric (check out the "Grading" tab to see which rubric criteria have skills mapped to them) and the level of the course you're in (e.g., an advanced course will have more total Skill XP available for an assignment than an introductory course). The more Skill XP you earn in a given skill, the more proficient you become.
What is the Skills page?
The Skills page is your one-stop dashboard to assess your skill development. Skills are organized by proficiency level, with higher levels of proficiency indicating more depth and breadth within a skill.
What's the difference between target and regular skills?
Target skills (shown with a green target icon) are skills specifically required for your career target. Regular skills are other skills you're developing through courses that may be valuable for your career but aren't specifically listed as requirements for your target career.
How do I add new skills?
The best way to broaden and deepen your Skill set is to explore and enroll in Rize-powered courses relevant to your career target.
Career Milestones
What are Career Milestones?
Career Milestones are the most important actions you need to take to get a job, no matter what the job is. Completing these Milestones will make you significantly more likely to end college with a post-grad outcome that you’re happy with. They're separate from course assignments and focus on your overall career development. You can view them as a Timeline or a Checklist.
What does it mean if a milestone says I'm "Behind Schedule"?
"Behind Schedule" means the milestone was expected to be completed by a certain semester, but hasn’t been marked as completed yet. Don't worry! This is only an estimate.
We know everyone’s career journey is different, and you can still complete these tasks on your own time. If you’ve already completed any of the tasks, please click into the task and mark it as complete.
How do I complete a career milestone?
Click on a milestone task to see its objective, step-by-step instructions, and any links to relevant resources. Once you've completed the steps listed for the task, click "Mark as complete" at the top of the task.
What's the difference between the Timeline and Checklist views?
The Timeline view shows your milestones on a visual timeline from your start date to graduation, with a "You are here" marker. The Checklist view organizes tasks into three columns: Current Semester, Future, and Completed, making it easy to see what to work on now vs. later.
Explore Careers
I have no idea what I want to do after graduation. Why do I have to select a career target?
It's totally okay (and for many, expected) to not know what to do for your job. We expect students to change their minds many times throughout their college career, especially as they learn more about their interests and desires. Rize asks you to set a career target simply to ensure you have an initial end goal to work towards. We want that goal to change and evolve as you do! But setting a goal, any goal, is the first step.
How do I explore different career options?
Navigate to "Explore Careers" in the sidebar. You can browse over 900 career options and save your favorites. Each career listing shows required skills, average salary, and available job opportunities. You can compare your current readiness between careers through your projected CRS.
How do I save a career I'm interested in?
On the Explore Careers page or a career detail page, click the bookmark icon. Saved careers appear in the "Saved Careers" tab for easy reference later.
How do I change my career target?
Open any career you're interested in exploring. In the top right corner you'll see a button titled "Make this my target." Click the button to update your career target.
Note: Changing your career target will update your CRS progress and course recommendations.
Where does the career and salary data come from?
Career data is sourced from the US National Lightcast Dataset, as noted on the Explore Careers page.
Career Readiness Score (CRS)
What is CRS?
CRS, or your Career Readiness Score, offers a view of your progress towards your career target. The score ranges from 0 to 100 and is based on your the Career Target-specific Skill XP you've earned and the number of Career Milestones you've completed. Don't worry about getting to 100 as fast as possible, or even getting to 100 at all. Instead, focus on doubling down on the skills you enjoy developing and knocking out Career Milestones as you go along.
Plan Courses
How do I plan my future courses?
Go to "Plan Courses" in the sidebar. The "My Plan" tab shows your current course plan by semester. Click "+ Add Course" to add new courses to a semester. Use "Browse Courses" to discover courses, and "Saved Courses" to see ones you've bookmarked.
What does "Career Recommended" mean on a course?
Courses highlighted with "Career Recommended" (shown in a green background) are specifically recommended because they teach skills needed for your career target. Prioritizing these courses will help you build career-relevant skills faster.
How do I know which courses to take?
When building your course plan, you can have Rize auto-generate a plan for you based on your previous course history and your target careers / skills. Additionally, the Browse Courses page provides course recommendations based on your specific career target. In general, we recommend focusing on courses that help meet your graduation requirements and provide the skills you need to reach your career target.
Can I edit or remove a course from my plan?
Yes. When editing your course plan, you can remove a course by clicking the minus sign on the course card. Additionally, you can use the "Edit" button on a course home page to change the semester it's planned for, or the "Remove" button to take it off your plan.
How do I save a course for later?
When browsing courses, click the bookmark icon on any course card to save it. You can view all saved courses under the "Saved Courses" tab in Explore Courses.
